Cinnamon Pie Pull-a-Part Rolls Ingredient List

Filling:

  • 1 15 oz Can Yams in Syrup, drained
  • 2 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. Brown Sugar
  • 4 oz Whipped Cream Cheese
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla Bean Paste or Extract
  • 1/4 tsp. Kosher Salt
  • 1 Egg Yoke

Pastry:

  • 1 Refrigerated Puff Pastry Roll
  • 2 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. Kosher Salt
  • 1/4 tsp. Pumpkin Pie Spice
  • 1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
  • Spray Butter

Equipment List:

  • Potato Masher
  • Cooking Spray
  • Muffin Pan
  • Gas Grill or Smoker (and yes, you can make this in an oven too)

Preparing the Ingredients for Cooking:

Pre-heat your smoker or oven to 400° F.

Drain and mash the yams. Stir together the remaining filling ingredients in a bowl. Set aside in the refrigerator to chill.

Cut the pastry roll into 2”X2” squares and fill each square with approximately 1/2 tsp. of the chilled pie filling. Pinch each opposite corner up and form a ball. Spray each ball with butter.

Generously spray muffin pan with cooking spray.

Mix together the sugar, brown sugar, salt, and spices. Roll buttered ball in spice mix and set in muffin pan. Tuck three sugared and stuffed pastry into each muffin pan well.

Place muffin pan over indirect heat for about 20 minutes.

Pull rolls out of the muffin pan immediately after pulling pan from the oven. Best served warm.

Tips For Better Results:

  • You will need to cut at least 36 squares from the puff pastry roll for a 12 well pan.
  • While we find yams in syrup to be the best filling option, pumpkin pure is a great option.
  • The kids can help with cutting the pastry roll, spraying the rolls and the muffin pan, and dipping the pastry rolls in the spice mixture.
  • Ovens and BBQ pits vary in temperature. Watch the tops of the pastries and pull them once they brown up.
  • Remove the rolls from the muffin pan immediately to avoid the sugars from sticking to the pan.
