Bacon Wrapped Onion Rings by Meat Church
Seems like any obsession-worthy food can still be made better just by adding bacon to it in some way. Bacon crumbles over salad? Indeed. Is that glazed donut just not doing it for you? Put a fried slice in the middle. Your favorite pizza pie? It has four kinds of bacon on it, pal.
But today, our friends at Meat Church have done it again. They looked at the crispy fried perfection of the all-American onion ring and went one better. They added their special sweet rub to a ring of crispy bacon wrapped onion and our tummies rumble just reading about it. So let’s get right to it.
Ingredients for Bacon Wrapped Onion Rings
- 4 sweet onions
- 1 package bacon
- Sriracha sauce
- Honey Hog BBQ Rub
- BBQ sauce
- Skewers
Now these can be cooked in a smoker, on a grill or even in your standard kitchen oven. However, Matt Pittman notes that most people will have trouble keeping the onion inside the rings tender enough when direct grilled. They tend to be a bit more raw and snappy. If that’s how you like them, no problem!
Set your smoker or grill to 250 degrees Fahrenheit and allow some time for the temperature to stabilize. And make sure you use a rub that’s made sweet, for the perfect compliment to the acidity of the onions and the savory of the bacon.
